About our special guests:

Jessica Dettmann

Jessica Dettmann is a Sydney-based writer and performer. Her blog, Life With Gusto, turns a sharp but affectionate eye on modern parenthood. She has performed her work several times at Giant Dwarf's Story Club and has appeared on their podcast. After a decade working as an editor for Random House Australia and HarperCollins publishers she made the transition to writing after two small children rendered her housebound. She once appeared as the City of Sydney Christmas Angel and sat on top of the Town Hall in a frock that reached the street.

In late 2018 Dettmann’s debut novel How to Be Second Best was published through HarperCollins, drawing comparisons to Liane Moriarty and Marian Keyes. Her latest novel, This Has Been Absolutely Lovely (2021), continues her signature style.

‘Dettmann nails the funny, sad and bizarre nuances of family life in this gripping novel that will appeal to fans of Liane Moriarty, Jojo Moyes and Marian Keyes’ – Sally Hepworth

J.P. Pomare

J.P. Pomare is an award-winning writer who has had work published in journals including Meanjin, Kill Your Darlings, Takahe and Mascara Literary Review. He has hosted the On Writing podcast since 2015 featuring bestselling authors from around the globe.

J.P. Pomare’s first novel, Call Me Evie, was critically acclaimed and won the Ngaio Marsh Award for Best First Novel. In The Clearing, Pomare's second novel, was also a critically acclaimed bestseller. His latest novel, Tell Me Lies, was originally published as an Audible Original with over 300,000 downloads worldwide. This is the first time it has been made available in print and eBook.

J.P. Pomare was born in New Zealand and resides in Melbourne with his wife.

‘There's no doubt about it: Pomare is a master of the carefully constructed, impeccably paced psycho-thriller.’ – The Australia
