How to Start a Book Club

Getting started is easy! You'll need:

  • A Book Club name
  • A Coordinator (the main contact for the group)
  • A valid email address

The Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Managing borrowed sets
  • Paying the annual membership fee
  • Sharing library updates with the group

We encourage all Book Club members to become MidCoast Libraries members!

How It Works

  • Each kit includes 10 copies of the book (with 2 extra available in the general collection).
  • Book Club sets are issued for 8 weeks.
  • Extensions are available if the book isn't reserved by another club.
  • If a copy is lost or damaged, the cost of the full kit may be charged—alternatively, you can replace the lost title.

 Annual Fee: $130 per club (2024–25 financial year, subject to change). An invoice will be sent to the Coordinator each July.

Can We Suggest Titles?

Absolutely! Book Clubs can suggest new titles any time. To be considered, suggested books must:

  • Be under 400 pages
  • Be rated 3.7+ on Goodreads or have won an award
  • Have at least 100 Goodreads reviews
  • Be relevant and great for discussion
